@ThinkGeek has a New T-Shirt Just for Twits
(From ThinkGeek.com) In the online world, were all about taking language and mucking with it. Fortunately, the era of appending the letters E or I to the beginning of every word has passed, and now were on to the decade of optional vowels and reclaiming words to make them mean something entirely different. Thats what Twitter is all about. Its appropriate; at only 140 characters it only allows users to warble a bit before theyre silent again, much like a songbird going on about its mating rituals and whats for lunch. Those in the know identify 2twitter2 as the interface. The correct terminology for the act of sending something is 2tweet.2 According to the OED (the Oxford English Dictionary, our dictionary of choice -- its unofficial motto: 2Why settle for just one volume?2), tweets venture into the proverbial territory of the verb began in 1851. It had only been written down as a noun 6 years earlier, so thats a pretty quick jump between parts of speech. Presumably eventually the verb entry will be modified to indicate that in 2006/2007 2to tweet2 meant to send 140 characters or less via device agnostic interface to a specified group of individuals. But by the time it gets incorporated, well probably be checking it via our own personal bio-integrated computer systems. Annnd were just going to act like 2tweeple2 didnt happen. K? Good. 2im tweeting this2 in a Twitter-esque blue and white font on a black, 100% cotton shirt. |
